Chief Edward J. Walsh<span class="wpmtp-job-title">Taunton Police Department</span>

Chief Walsh has been with the Taunton Police Department since 1988.  He has served in the various divisions of the department, promoted through the ranks from Patrolman to Sergeant in 1995, Sergeant to Lieutenant in 2000, Lieutenant to Captain in 2006, and to Chief of Police in 2010. His assignment prior to being appointed to the position of Chief was as Detective Captain in Charge of Investigations.

Chief Walsh is a lifelong resident of Taunton, despite having served in various locations with the United States Army in both the United States and overseas. Chief Walsh retired from the United States Army Reserve in 2006, having obtained the rank of Sergeant Major. Chief Walsh’s assignments included the Defense Intelligence Agency, Project Northstar, Combined Task Force Fervent Archer, and instructional duties. He is a graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Course, and has graduated from numerous military schools to include the National Security Agency, Joint Military Intelligence Training Center, and the United States Army Intelligence Center and School. Chief Walsh was a certified as an instructor by the United States Army Intelligence Center and School as well as the United States Forces Command. His awards included the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and numerous Joint Meritorious Unit Awards.

Chief Walsh is highly educated, having graduated in 1983 with an Associates Degree from Bristol Community College, a Bachelor’s Degree with a dual major in History and Political Science from the University of Massachusetts in 1986. Chief Walsh also has a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Anna Maria College, 1991, a Masters in Public Administration from Bridgewater State in 2002, and a Juris Doctor from New England School of Law in 2007. Chief Walsh has completed numerous civilian courses to include the Kennedy School of Government’s Senior Executive Program, the Massachusetts Police Leadership Institute, and Federal Bureau of Investigation’s LEEDA Program.

Chief Walsh is admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the United States District Court for Massachusetts, and the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.

Chief Walsh is an instructor in various criminal justice courses.  He is an Adjunct Faculty Member of Quincy College.

Chief Walsh has participated in various conferences and meetings across the country on criminal justice related issues. He currently serves on the International Association of Chiefs of Police Board of Directors and as Vice Chair Midsize Agencies Division.
