Mobile Operations Patrol Unit Patch

The SEMLEC Mobile Operation Patrol Unit (MOP) is a specialized team of municipal police motorcycle officers who provide rapid, high-visibility support across southeastern Massachusetts. The unit enhances traffic management, crowd control, and public-safety operations during major events and mutual-aid activations.

Mission & Services

  • Traffic direction and enforcement to improve roadway safety and support member agencies during high-volume or special-event conditions.
  • Crowd control and event support for parades, festivals, escorts, and large community gatherings requiring maneuverable, visible policing.
  • Mutual-aid response allowing motorcycle teams to deploy across jurisdictions under SEMLEC’s regional framework.
  • Major event deployment including assignments to high-profile statewide events such as the Boston Marathon.

Unit Value

The MOP Unit offers mobility and flexibility that traditional patrol vehicles cannot match, improving traffic flow and public-safety presence during crowded or dynamic events. Regional collaboration allows smaller communities to access specialized motorcycle resources when needed.

Activation

Member agencies can request the MOP Unit for special events, traffic operations, escorts, and incidents requiring coordinated regional support.
