The SEMLEC Bicycle Response Team (BRT) provides a highly mobile, community-focused policing option for member agencies. The team operates effectively in areas where traditional patrol vehicles have limited access, including downtowns, parks, trails, and major event venues.
BRT’s mission is to deploy trained bicycle-patrol officers to enhance safety and mobility in constrained areas; support agencies during planned events, community-policing details, and unplanned incidents requiring rapid ground response; and strengthen positive public engagement with highly visible, approachable officers.
Capabilities
- Mobility: Bicycles offer quick access to pedestrian zones, paths, and tight spaces, reducing response times.
- Visibility & Engagement: Officers on bikes provide a strong deterrent and increased approachability during community events and outreach.
- Event Support: Ideal for crowd management, parades, festivals, and traffic-restricted areas.
- Mutual Aid: Available to all SEMLEC member agencies when a non-vehicle patrol asset is needed.
