Mobile Command Unit

Control Chief: Chief Matt Ahl, Plympton Police Department

Unit Commander: Officer Cameron Broderick, Plympton Police Department

Through the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council, agency members have access to a fully equipped Mobile Command Unit (MCU) that can be deployed to any major incident or planned event. This vehicle serves as an on-scene command post, providing a secure, technology-driven workspace where incident commanders can coordinate operations, communicate with partnering agencies, and manage resources in real time.

Mission

The mission of the Mobile Command Unit is to support safe, efficient, and well-coordinated responses to critical incidents, large-scale investigations, and community events. By bringing advanced communications, planning tools, and supervisory staff directly to the field, the unit helps preserve life, protect property, and restore normalcy as quickly and safely as possible.

Capabilities

The Mobile Command Unit is configured to support complex operations with:

  • Multi-band interoperable radio and phone communications
  • Computer workstations and access to law enforcement databases
  • Mapping and incident planning resources
  • Video monitoring and information sharing tools (where available)
  • Work areas for command staff, supervisors, and support personnel
  • Space for SEMLEC specialty teams (SWAT, CNT, Search & Rescue, Dive, etc.) to coordinate on scene

These capabilities allow the unit to serve as the central hub for decision-making during large-scale or extended operations.

Community Values

The deployment of the Mobile Command Unit reflects the member agencies’ commitment to:

  • Public Safety: Providing organized, well-managed responses that prioritize the safety of residents, visitors, and first responders.
  • Professionalism: Using best practices, technology, and training to effectively manage critical incidents.
  • Regional Cooperation: Leveraging SEMLEC resources to ensure that all member communities have access to specialized equipment and support.
  • Transparency and Accountability: Creating a structured command environment that supports clear communication, accurate documentation, and responsible decision-making.

Activation

The Mobile Command Unit is a regional asset available to SEMLEC member agencies.

  • Activation is requested by a Chief of Police or designee through established SEMLEC protocols.
  • The unit may be deployed for critical incidents (e.g., barricaded subjects, search and rescue operations, large crime scenes), major community events, pre-planned enforcement initiatives, and other operations that require an on-scene command post.
  • Once on scene, the Mobile Command Unit functions as the primary command and control center, integrating the efforts of local, regional, and, when necessary, state, and federal partners.
